Death Valley is an incredible and extreme place. Recently, there have been some remarkable and progressive new advances in sustainability for some of the facilities operating there. Joel Southall was until recently the Director of Environmental Affairs for Xanterra there in Death Valley (he's now in the same role at the Grand Canyon) and led some of these efforts, including the development of a 6-acre solar electricity field there that has resulted in significant energy production and savings.
